Weekly Photo Challenge: THANKFUL

I am thankful for parents who allow their kids to draw on the driveway & sidewalk (because mine wouldn’t!) …………

And I am very VERY thankful for the children who have not yet lost their innate creativity ………..

Weekly Photo Challenge: BLUE #2 — Blue Dome District

Downtown Tulsa in the background

Welcome to the Blue Dome District of Tulsa, OK!

It is situated at the edge of the downtown area, where defunct warehouses & other old buildings are being re-groovified. This district lies along a section of the ‘Mother Road‘. Oklahoma, by the way, has a longer stretch of this fabled highway than any of the other states it goes through ……

In the 1920′s, there was a corner filling station, where the proprietor lived upstairs. And you could drive up any hour of the day or night, & wake him up for that old-fashioned kind of service. This district was named after this filling station, as it was topped by …… a blue dome.

This is the area for downtown nightlife, & there are many trendy restaurants, bars & clubs, several sporting large outdoor murals.

I find it interesting & amusing that this Week’s Photo Challenge: BLUE is so well represented in the liquor industry:)

A variety of eateries are available in the Blue Dome District, all with distinctive appeal.

There are a variety of businesses, of course, in the Blue Dome District …. even a bowling alley, The Dust Bowl “where the wind comes sweeping down the lanes”! And kudos for the historical reference — the Dust Bowl hit Oklahoma very hard. Think: ‘Grapes of Wrath’. (Alas, I did not take a pic of the new Adult Superstore, because it is new construction & I don’t care for porn. But I wish I had a photo now, to round out the “experience”. Please forgive my inadvertant editing ………;)

The Blue Dome District values its vintage Art Deco heritage, & the details of the architecture are preserved & highlighted. There’s a “look” to the area. Even the bus stops are cool!
