Here’s what I think:
The fundamental ingredient of a mindful society is the consciousness of its people. The ways in which they express that consciousness, the way it plays out, are what will create that mindful world.
We see ourselves as a “cell” of a greater organism – the family, the community, the culture, the planet.
Each family, c
ommunity etc is also seen as a part of the greater organism (comprising an “organ”? ha!)
Contemplative & meditative skil
ls are taught from from an
early age, & people are encouraged to respond t
o what we
notice, what we see.
We are rewarded for being aware of our impact upon each other & the greater organism. People
see that there are necessarily many kinds of “cells”, which all play a role in the life of the greater body. There are many mechanisms in the communities for improving that impact upon everyone else:
Expression through the arts
& invention
Sustainable methods of living, farming, building, etc
Incentives for doing volunteer work as young teens, & throughout adulthood
Time & interaction are the major currencies
We can see the first stirrings of this happening in the contemporary moment. And also great resistance to it. So, “mindfulness” being brought about in a pervasive way IS possible ………………..
